A knocked-out tooth is one of the most urgent dental emergencies. Quick action can significantly increase the chances of saving the tooth.
If a tooth gets knocked out due to an accident or sports injury, carefully pick it up by the crown, not the root. Rinse it gently with water if it is dirty, but avoid scrubbing it.
If possible, try placing the tooth back into its socket and gently bite down on gauze to hold it in place. If reinserting it isn’t possible, store the tooth in milk or saliva.
It is crucial to see a dentist within 30–60 minutes. The sooner the tooth is treated, the higher the chances it can be successfully reattached.
